Welcome! I’m Erica Anzalone. Nice to meet you, dear reader.
I’m a writer and educator with over two decades of teaching experience. I’m also the owner of Witch Lit, where I teach creative writing classes online. I hold an MFA from the University of Iowa and a doctorate in English at UNLV. My book Samsara is the winner of the Noemi Press Poetry Prize.
I’m excited to play with Substack, so here’s my plan. (I may be experimenting as we go though.)
Once or twice a month on Monday, you can expect a long-ish post on writing and magic. I aim to acknowledge all responses and write a more detailed response to 1-3 people.
Every Thursday, you can expect a shorter post called “The Circle.” I’ll share a poem, flash piece, or excerpt from a longer piece, as well as occasional tips and prompts. You can share a poem or short piece/excerpt (500 words or less unless otherwise specified) of any genre in response.
I aim to acknowledge all posts with a note of encouragement, and to write a more detailed response to 1-3 creative pieces per week. If you’d prefer only supportive responses with no feedback, please let me know. In fact, if you have any burning questions or preferences, please always let me know.
Although this newsletter is currently free, I appreciate support if you can afford it.
Thank you for sharing part of your writing journey with Witch Lit! I’m glad you’re here.
